A statue is a piece of art in the shape of a human or animal that is often made out of stone or metal. The Statue of Liberty was created by French artist Frederic Auguste Bartholdi at the workshop of Gaget, Gauthier & Company. In this story Colette, a daughter of Gaget, writes exciting letters updating her American cousin, Philip, on the statue. As you read, take notes on why the sculpture is called the Statue of Liberty.
